Crystal Vision Clinic was voted one of 2011 Sun Newspapers Reader’s Choice Winners for Best Optometrist / Eye Glass Store!  Thank you for making us #1!!

January 2011 Dr. Hess and his wife Margie were part of a VOSH team that traveled to Teacapan, Mexico to provide eye care and glasses to the poor people of that village.  The team was hosted by Amigos de Teacapan and the local Lions Club.  The team saw over 1,800 patients and dispensed as many pair of eye glasses.  Teacapan is a fishing village, and practically no one wore sunglasses to protect their eyes from the harmful effects of the sun reflecting off the water.  They were able to provide free sunglasses to all their patients.  While it was unseasonably cool there, it was much warmer than our winter weather back home.

Sept 18 – 27, 2008:  Drs. Hess and Laconic will be traveling to the city of Shchors in Ukraine on another VOSH humanitarian trip!  The group of thirteen volunteers includes three optometrists, one ophthalmologist, and two opticians.  Dr. Hess also volunteered with VOSH Minnesota on their first trip to Ukraine in 2003.

May 2008: Dr. Hess and his wife, Margie, just returned from a two-week trip to the Solomon Islands with the Loloma Foundation. They traveled with a group of 21 volunteers, which, in addition to two optometrists, included other health care practitioners such as surgeons, a dentist, an anesthesiologist, and nursing personnel. Overall, the group visited five different areas within the islands and cared for approximately 4,500 patients. The “eye department” performed about 1,500 eye exams using special portable, hand-held instruments and dispensed donated eyeglasses to those in need. Since there are no optometrists on the islands, for many of these patients, this was their first eye examination. Dr. Hess appreciated our cool Minnesota spring after the sweltering island heat and humidity!
